Summer time is the right time to catch great Coho Salmon on Lake Michigan. We fish out of East Chicago Harbor and the fishing is excellent when you try for Salmon.
The trip out can be from five to fifteen miles depending on where the fish are feeding. It has a lot to do with temperature, wind and water temperature. The beginning of the season found the fish in 50 to 60 feet of water. The wind was domenately out of the south to southwest. That lasted a few weeks and then the wind was hard and out of the northeas. This pushed the fish in to deeper water where the temperatures were cooler.
This is one hard working sport but well worth the effort.
We caught most of our fish on trolling spoons at 50 ft. deep. We also had good luck with meat rigs. This is a sure way to hook into some King Salmon and Lake Trout. Want to have some fun, go try your skill at trolling for some big ones.
Beachcombing Bags
Beachcombing Bags
I like to walk on the beach and collect various items that wash up from the water or are left behind by previous visitors. This is great exercise but is also good for the spirit. The beach, the sand, the sounds of the wind and the waves are very relaxing to me. I think many people also share my affections for this past time. When I know I will be beachcombing, I am sure to take along a bag to deposit the items I want to carry back to my art studio.
I suggest that if you are a beachcomber or want to give it a go, use a cloth bag. You can wash it and recycle it for continued collecting. Old pillow cases work well, or a garment bag or laundry bag. Cloth works the best because it will be less likly to tear and will not hold water inside but will get wet. Be careful where you set it on your way home. You may not want to get other nearby items wet on the return trip. Happy hunting.
